A Modern Home Above a Scenic Mountain Lake in SoCal Hits the Market for $6 Million
From Beverly Hills to Santa Barbara, architectural firm Design 21 is behind a number of “dream homes” spread across California. This includes one striking European-inspired contemporary mansion that just hit the market in the southern California community of Agoura Hills. Built in 2023, under the creative direction of award-winning Swiss architect Roger Kurath, the lake view estate promises unmatched privacy atop nearly 3.5 acres. Sandro Dazzan and Cody Garcia of The Agency hold the $5.9 million listing.
Last year, the two-story residence above Malibou Lake, about 10 miles west of Calabasas, came to market in May 2024 for $6.7 million. Its price was cut down to $6.49 million two months later, and by the top of this year it saw a 7.6 percent price drop to its current ask. Like other residences designed by Kurath, it initially stands out for its captivating facade. The mansion is reached down a private 400-foot driveway, where you’ll find its boxy configuration angled along a hillside with unobstructed views over the lake.

Past its soaring entrance area lies the living room, where double-height ceilings hover above a series of sliding glass doors and windows. Ample seating space sits opposite a floating staircase illuminated by an abundance of natural light. Space aside, the room’s greatest feature is its massive view of the mountainous landscape. Drenched in sunlight, the home’s siting on a high plateau makes for impressive couch-side vistas within the 6,524-square-foot abode. You can further immerse yourself in the settings out on the back patio, where steps lead down to lush landscaping, an infinity pool, and a hot tub.

The chef’s kitchen and formal dining room sit alongside one another beneath a backlit wooden ceiling. The blacked-out kitchen features Leicht cabinetry from Germany, quartz countertops, Miele appliances, and a butler’s pantry. A wine wall sits between the conjoined spaces, adjacent to a breakfast bar. Elsewhere on the main floor, there are a family room and bedroom. You’ll find the primary suite upstairs with walk-in closets and a balcony accessible from both its bedroom and spa-like bathroom overlooking the lake. Three more bedrooms are spread across the second floor.
Other key features of the home include an indoor-outdoor gym set beneath two skylights, a home office, an outdoor kitchen, and a sprawling rooftop deck that’s complete with a bathroom. Whether you’re hosting a celebratory bash or intimate kickback, the rooftop offers plenty of seating space and standing room to give large crowds breathing room among epic panoramic vistas.
