This mom is proving that post-baby life isn't one-size-fits-all

A mom from Texas is taking to Instagram to show that no two post-baby bodies are the same — and that’s OK.

Meghan Boggs has been writing about her experiences with pregnancy since she first found out she was expecting. On her blog, she admits she received scary news at a OBGYN appointment, and that’s when she decided it was time to change her perspective.

“Just after we got married in 2014, I received some startling news at my annual OBGYN appointment. I was extremely overweight (not really news to me at the time), but if it was in our future to try and start a family, things would get really complicated and my hopes of eventually becoming a mother could disappear unless I made some life changes to take care of myself,” she wrote. “That was all it took for me to turn my life around. I started attending Camp Gladiator, changed my eating habits as well as my mindset on life and lost 80 pounds in that next year (and gained a whole lot of self love!).”

Three years later Boggs found out she was expecting her first child, a girl. After gaining back 60 lbs during the pregnancy, the former music teacher began documenting her postpartum life on Instagram. As a plus size mother, Boggs shows that not all experiences are the same after giving birth.

“Just over here trying to be mama, keep exercising, drink enough water, keep up with laundry, attempt to be social, control my allergies, find time for myself, raise a good human and pretty much stay sane. Easy enough,” wrote Boggs on her Instagram. “Self reflecting is so important, but so is letting yourself have a good laugh. I try to allow myself to have a combination of both.”

“When I first posted a photo like this a few months ago, I had a mini panic attack right before posting. But I’m so glad I found the courage and posted. I had always seen such beautiful photos of women and mothers showing their bare backs. And I always thought how I could never feel beautiful posting something like that. I think back to that and can’t believe I was forced to think that way, that society forced me to think so negatively about myself based on my appearance only,” wrote Boggs. “Then one day I just said screw it. I’m not holding back anymore. I’m beautiful. I’m posting it. End of story… There’s no rule saying I’m not allowed to. This is normal. This is beautiful. We are all beautiful. No matter what an internet troll will try and force us to believe.”

Her more than 8,800 followers praise the young mother for her ability to capture motherhood in a raw and honest way, inspiring others to love themselves as they are.

“Thank you for posting this! You and that babe are beautiful! My baby just turned six months [at] the end of April and I’m having a hard time with my ‘plus size’ body and the way I ‘should’ look,” wrote one follower.

“I seriously love your Instagram feed. Your posts always inspire, motivate and encourage me. Thank you for your authenticity and vulnerability,” added another.

As for Boggs, she’s taking it one day at a time.

“When I look at my body, it’s still difficult sometimes. But I see her watching,” she wrote. “She smiles at me and my body and I hope it’s how she smiles at hers someday.”
