More than 1,000 PG&E customers without power in San Luis Obispo County as heat persists

Update, 5:24 p.m.:

Power was restored to 1,795 customers in Atascadero at 5 p.m., four hours earlier than expected.

Crews are investigating the cause of the outages, PG&E told The Tribune through email.

The second outage area affecting 1,187 customers is still ongoing.

“Crews are working safely and as quickly as possible to identify the cause and restore the affected customers,” PG&E said.

More than 2,000 PG&E customers were out of power Saturday afternoon in San Luis Obispo County.

In Atascadero, 1,795 customers were out of power as of 3:15 p.m. Power is expected to be restored Saturday evening at 9:15 p.m.

The Monterey-San Luis Obispo County border, including Lake Nacimiento, reported 1,187 customers out of power. The outage, reported at 3:22 p.m., was expected to be cleared at 5 p.m.

Other areas of San Luis Obispo were sparsely impacted, including Oceano, Cayucos and Paso Robles — each with one customer affected.

The power lines have enhanced safety settings currently turned on, according to the PG&E website. These settings turn off the power when “there is an increased wildfire risk,” such as an object hitting a power line.

“Power demand during hot summer weather can overload electrical equipment causing power outages,” according to a PG&E infographic.
