The Most Comfortable Pair of Ballet Flats for Walking

It is with the utmost regret that I have to inform you that the prophecy made for me in my senior year book is 100% accurate. In 2009, a committee of teenagers deemed that in the future, one thing was certain: I would still walk everywhere. 12 years later, this prediction is true. I still love to walk everywhere. And I still love to walk everywhere while dressed well. If you share an affinity for traveling by foot, then you know the issue: finding comfortable shoes that are also stylish. But I have found the solution for my sore, flat feet in the form of a sleek and oh-so-classic ballet flat, otherwise known as the Demi by Margaux.
As I mentioned before, I have flat feet. This complicates walking everywhere because I really need to wear sensible and supportive shoes that can compensate for that fact. I refuse, refuse to resort to wearing a great outfit with chunky sneakers that I change out of when I get to my destination. A few months ago I stumbled upon the Margaux Demi flat and thought why not give them a spin—I have a pair of boots from the brand that I love—so I had high hopes that they would fill the void that so many cute-but-not-functional flats had left painfully empty.
I snapped up a pair in the Saddle hue, a perfect neutral to pair with jeans and dresses—a classic year round hue that isn't black—and got to testing.
First thing is first: my foot is narrow, but I didn't experience any of the gapping at the sides while walking that would cause my toes to grip, and my feet to get sore after walking a couple dozen New York City blocks. And in spite of the fact the cord at the front which ties into a bow is functional—it can make the shoe a bit more snug should you need it—the functionality doesn't take away from form. What you have on your foot is a sleek and elegant shoe that looks good and practically effortless with just about everything.
But how does it stand up to walking distances? I have put that to the test a few times on the walk between my Manhattan nest and my boyfriend's Williamsburg apartment, a 3 mile walk door-to-door. With 5 mm of foam padding, my foot feels supported for the whole walk, no aches and pains nor any struggles. I am able to get wherever I need to go without feeling like I have to sacrifice my personal taste just to get all my steps in. Now I just need to snag a few pairs in different colors.
