Mugler Revisits ‘Les Insectes’ for Eyewear Collab With Gentle Monster

French fashion house Mugler has teamed with South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster on a range of avant-grade eyewear pieces inspired by Thierry Mugler’s iconic Les Insectes spring 1997 haute couture collection.

The collaboration comprises two frames — Spiral 01 and Spiral 02 — and a conceptual illuminating headpiece.

Spiral 01, which has a geometric design with tentacle-like spikes around the frame, was inspired by glasses originally included in the insect-themed collection, which have become prized items among fashion collectors and major institutions like The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Palais Galliera in Paris.

A pair of the original glasses from the collection is being listed on luxury resale site 1stdibs for over 10,000 pounds.

Spiral 02, meanwhile, offers a more subtle take on Mugler’s avant-garde spirit. The wraparound style features embossed line details — seen on Mugler’s bestselling leggings — and a chrome logo on the temples.

The release is accompanied by a campaign shot by Chinese photographer Theo Liu featuring model Colin Jones and Georgia Palmer.

Special activations are planned in Seoul and Shanghai to celebrate the launch as well.
