The “October Theory” Hack Is the Lifestyle Tweak You Need to Try this Weekend
I’m all about leveling up in every area of my life. I constantly think about how I can improve mentally, physically, and emotionally. And right now, before the year ends, I want to transform and grow. So when I stumbled upon the “October theory” trend, I was instantly intrigued.
When October 1 hits, many people realize it’s the start of Q4, and they’re eager to end the year on a high note. That’s where the October theory comes in.
What Is the October Theory?
The October theory is a TikTok trend shared by TikToker Macy Morgan. The theory suggests that, with the holidays approaching, people should refocus, set goals, and get their lives on track as they prepare to see their family members in November and December. By incorporating this mindset and thinking of October as a “second” new year, you’ll likely have positive news to share regarding work, school, or life at holiday events.
Fall can bring on many emotions, one of them being “autumn anxiety,” which is commonly linked to seasonal depression. One of the ways people are starting to take advantage of this “downtime” is using autumn to regroup and make meaningful changes to their overall health while spending most of their days at home.
Some lifestyle changes you might make include exercising, organizing your financial budget, and contemplating or making career changes.
I first heard about the October theory through my coworker, when she shared this article with me. It reminded me of another TikTok trend called the “the winter arc,” which was shared by TikToker Carly Berges. This trend also begins on October 1, and was created with the same intent of getting people laser-focused on their goals, personal development, and growth.
The winter arc continues throughout the winter season, while the October theory focuses on just using October to prepare for the rest of the year. Both concepts are trending right now, as the end of the year rapidly approaches. So how can you harness these trends to make some changes before New Year’s Day?
How to Apply the October Theory
I don’t know about you, but I think incorporating both trends into your home this fall makes perfect sense, and will help me get way ahead of any New Year’s resolutions without distractions. Here are five tips on how you can incorporate them into your living space.
Declutter Your Space
Just like the leaves shed their layers, so do humans. Fall is an ideal time to declutter your home. A tidy environment makes a big difference, and can lead to a clearer mind and overall better mental health.
Create a Cozy Atmosphere
Add comforting elements to your home, like warm blankets, soft sheets, and scented candles. These small-but-mighty touches make a big difference and will foster a sense of comfort during these cooler months.
Incorporate Seasonal Decor
Embrace the beauty of the seasons changing by incorporating seasonal decorations in your home. Items like pumpkins, leaves, and themed pillows make all the difference. These create an inviting atmosphere that can lead to gratitude and reflections.
Establish a New Home Routine
When you’re completing the October theory or winter arc in other areas, it’ll require you to create a new routine. This is a great opportunity to establish a new daily or weekly routine in your home. This will create structure and allow you to thrive in all areas of your home.
Cook Seasonal Recipes
Fall is a great time to find new recipes. Consider experimenting with seasonal ingredients like squash, apples, and cinnamon. Cooking can be therapeutic and a great way to enjoy the new season.
This weekend, I’m going to take some time to myself and implement these tips into my home. I’m excited to try these trends out, and see how they translate to all areas of my home life.
