Here’s are the U.S. predictions for Christmas Day, 2024. Find the full details at The Old Farmer's Almanac. The publication notes that predicting the weather is not an exact science, but, in general, most of the U.S. is experiencing a warmer, wetter winter, and only a few spots can expect snow.
New England: Northern Maine has a chance of a White Christmas, but the rest of the region will be snow-free.
Ohio Valley: There is a chance of a white Christmas.
Heartland: Expect snow on Christmas Day.
High Plains: Areas south of I-70 will see a white Christmas, and the northern part of the region has a chance.
Intermountain: The Rockies will have a white Christmas. The northern part of Arizona will not.
If you live in any of these regions, do not expect snow on Christmas: Atlantic Corridor, Appalachians, Southeast, Florida, Lower Great Lakes, Texas–Oklahoma, Deep South, Upper Midwest, Desert Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Pacific Southwest, Alaska, and Hawaii.

While you’ve probably heard of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, you may not know that it’s a publication that was founded by Robert B. Thomas in 1792 in Grafton, Massachusetts. Today, it’s published by Yankee Publishing and based in New Hampshire. Not only is it the oldest continuously published periodical in North America (no big deal), it’s become a go-to spot for planting charts, astronomical information, and weather predictions, in addition to a bunch of lifestyle topics.
But wait, you’re asking, how can an almanac release annual predictions with any success when my local weatherman gets things very wrong one day out? The team at The Old Farmer’s Almanac says they can pull off correct projections thanks to age-old meteorological methods centered around solar science and sunspots along with newer fields like climatology and weather pattern and atmosphere analyses. According to them, they have an 80 percent accuracy average. Not bad, right?
