Olivia Jade Reportedly “Fully Knew” About College Admissions Scheme
The drama isn't over for Olivia Jade Giannulli just yet. While Olivia has returned to her favorite pastime of partying, sources have told Us Weekly that she “fully knew what her parents did” to get her into college.
“Olivia fully knew what her parents did to get her into USC, but didn’t think there was anything wrong with it,” the source said. “She didn’t get into any other California schools.”
Giannulli’s parents, actress Lori Loughlin and designer Mossimo Giannulli were arrested in March for their alleged involvement in a college admissions scandal scheme where they reportedly paid $500,000 to get their daughters Olivia and Bella into the University of Southern California, which included having them pose as top-tier crew athletes despite never being part of a crew team. Loughlin and Giannulli have since been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud and they have pled not guilty.
“The feds have an overwhelming amount of evidence against her, including emails, phone calls and financial documents,” lawyer Neama Rahmani told Us Weekly after the scandal broke, adding that they “could spend years, if not decades, behind bars.”
Meanwhile, both Giannulli sisters have dropped out of USC and broken up with their boyfriends. Olivia has currently distanced herself from her mother and has been photographed out and about in L.A. She is also reportedly planning a comeback to USC.
“Olivia has been talking to friends about returning to USC and while it seems odd after everything that’s happened, she is concerned about her image and seems to want to prove she can complete the classes and graduate," a source told Entertainment Tonight. “After being dropped by her brands, she’s worried she won’t ever get back on track without an education. She's afraid she’ll always be regarded as someone incapable of getting into a good school, and will always be seen as that girl whose family paid her way in.”
Rather than returning to USC in hopes of continuing her education, Olivia is hoping the move back to school can help repair her tarnished brand.
The source continued: “She feels she hasn’t been a part of any wrongdoing and feels tricked by her parents into going to a school that wasn't even her top choice. Right now she wants to prove she can do it on her own, and she thinks going back to school will help renew her image.”
