Omega’s New Paris Olympics Watch Is an Instant Classic

You may not be able to win a medal at this year’s Paris Olympics, but you can honor the Games with a little wrist candy. We’ve recommended both the best boutiques to hit up while in Paris this summer, as well as a number of French watches that might help you commemorate the Games. Yet, the official timekeeper, Omega, is making a strong case for a Swiss timepiece to remember the Paris Olympics.

Omega, which has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, announced on Wednesday a new special-edition watch for the 2024 event, this a follow-up to the lovely Speedmasters of last month. Unlike the Speedmasters, the Omega Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition uses gold, silver, and bronze as a nod to the medals that athletes will win, paired with the Swiss label’s expertise both inside and outside the timepiece.

A close-up of the dial
A close-up of the dial reveals beautiful guiloche engraving and traditional sector dial that harkens back to the 1930s.

The vintage-looking watch takes its design cues from a 1939 Omega specimen that used the brand’s 30T manual-winding small seconds calibre and held the reference CK 859. Here, BG 859 is engraved on the caseback, in a nod to the Bronze Gold elements, exclusive to Omega. The alloy, which exudes a soft pink color, composes the entire 39mm case. The caseback, meanwhile, also features a stamped and frosted Paris 2024 medallion.

Moving onto the dial, Omega has used Ag 925 silver, with the center made up of a “clous de Paris” (small pyramids) pattern. The brand’s dark-grey logo is presented as usual, but the minute track and small-seconds subdial track use a circular brushed pattern. You’ll also notice the third metal, 18-karat Sedna Gold, used for the watch’s slim hands, with a Bronze Gold coating for good measure.

The back of the watch
The back of the watch includes a Paris Olympics engraved pattern.

Inside, the timepiece is driven by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8926, a manual-winding movement that pays tribute to the vintage 30T2 movement. And around the wrist is a brown calf-skin leather strap with a sandblasted Bronze Gold buckle, plus a polished vintage Omega logo in positive relief for good measure.

The Omega Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition is just the latest in the marque’s lineup of Olympic-themed watches. Last year, its first timepiece honoring this summer’s Games was a Seamaster Diver 300M “Paris 2024” Special Edition, which saw a stainless-steel case accented by 18-karat Moonshine Gold touches. And in April, it followed up with two Chronoscope Speedmasters using the official colors of this year’s Olympics—gold, black, and white.

Thanks to its leather strap and vintage feel, the new Bronze Gold Edition adds a slightly more feminine watch to Omega’s Olympics offerings. It’s a group of timepieces that deserve their own moment on the podium.
