The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are preparing for their first royal tour of Australia and New Zealand, but there’s one thing Meghan Markle reportedly won’t be packing.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince Harry fully shut down Meghan’s hope to wear a Stella McCartney suit to an event on the tour. Apparently, he asked her to ditch the tux because of Queen Elizabeth II’s affinity for dresses and skirts when it comes to female attire in the royal family.

Meghan is being told she needs to stop dressing like a Hollywood star and start dressing like a royal,” the fashion team source at Kensington Palace told the Daily Mail. “Meghan wanted to wear a tuxedo-style suit but Harry said it wasn’t traditional enough.”

It’s well known the Duchess prefers to wear the pants in the relationship. At this winter’s Endeavour Fund Awards’ Ceremony, Markle donned a black Alexander MacQueen suit paired with a chic, white blouse. She was later pictured at Wimbledon alongside Kate Middleton in a Ralph Lauren ensemble, featuring white, flared trousers. But Prince Harry is putting his foot down.

Believed to be sitting in on the Duchess’s meetings with “special projects teams” from several designers, the Prince is encouraging Markle to dress according to royal standards set by the Queen. With her current style reportedly “barely tolerated” by royal aides, there is pressure on the Duchess to fit within the royal style.

Markle isn’t the first female royal to sport a tux. Following in Princess Diana’s 1988 Wembley Stadium’s footsteps, Markle is testing the waters with how to express herself. Much like her late mother-in-law, the Daily Mail reports the Duchess is struggling with the royal family’s strict rules.

Markle’s passion for cigarette trousers and flared dress pants will hopefully overrule Her Royal Highness’s traditional take on style – and we can’t wait until October to see!
