My hygienist recommended this £40 Oral-B electric toothbrush

This £100 brush is now better than half price.

Here's my verdict on the Oral-B 3 electric toothbrush that's currently on sale at Amazon. (Amazon/Yahoo Life UK)

Speak to any dentist, and they'll emphasise the importance of an electric toothbrush for your dental hygiene. The battery-powered brushes outperform traditional ones, as they have oscillating heads that thoroughly remove plaque, food, and bacteria build-up in a matter of minutes for an effective clean.

After my trusty Spotlight Oral Care toothbrush that I've used for over a year stopped charging a month ago, I was on the hunt for a replacement. And luckily for me, one of my good friends is also my dental hygienist, so I went straight to an expert to find out which one is worth the splurge.

Her recommendation? The Oral-B Pro 3 Electric Toothbrush, which I was pleasantly surprised to find was more affordable than I was expecting, as it was reduced on Amazon from £100 to just £40. Top tip: Never pay full price for an electric toothbrush - there's always a good deal to be found, you just sometimes have to do a bit of digging.

I've now been using it twice a day for a month and couldn't recommend it more highly. So if you're in the market for a new toothbrush, here's why I think this one in particular is worth your money.

This electric toothbrush has three different modes, comes with a travel case and an automatic pressure sensor.

🛍️ Product reviewed: Oral-B Pro 3 Electric Toothbrush
Tested for: Six weeks
Rating: 4/5
💸 Reasons to buy: It's easy to use, has an automatic pressure sensor to avoid hard brushing and leaves your teeth squeaky clean
✋ Reasons to avoid: The battery life isn't as long as previous toothbrushes I've had
💰 Best deal we've found: Currently at Amazon save 60%, reduced from £100 to £40

💸 Reasons to buy

Firstly, it's a very straightforward design, with three different cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive and whitening), allowing you to have a personalised clean depending on your needs. It also features a clever in-built timer that buzzes every 30 seconds to help you manage your teeth cleaning more efficiently. After two minutes, it slowly buzzes three times to indicate you can stop cleaning, which is ideal if you're never sure how long to brush for. I found it very easy-to-use and you can scroll through the different modes by pressing the on button until you reach your desired setting.

Another handy feature is the automatic pressure sensor, which lights up red when you're pressing too hard, helping to minimise damage to your gums caused by brushing too hard, which many of us are guilty of.

For me, I find it provides a deeper and more thorough clean than previous brushes, and is lightweight and simple to use, I didn't even need to read the instructions.

While I'm currently using the brush head that came with the toothbrush (which is another bonus, as it really does come with everything you need), including a travel case. You can buy a number of different replacement Oral-B brush heads, each offering a specific solution such as deep clean, gentle clean, or whitening.

This particular brush is compatible with all brush heads except for the iO brush heads, so it's worth keeping that in mind. Right now, you can pick up a four-pack on Amazon for just £12.

You can buy a replacement set of toothbrush heads for just £9.99 right now.

✋ Reasons to avoid

It is a little louder than my previous brush, so if you're getting up before your partner, it could be slightly inconvenient, but it's not the end of the world.

While I really rate this toothbrush for its cleaning ability and sleek design, the battery life is less than I expected. I get about a week's use before the battery light starts flashing and I need to charge it, whereas other electric toothbrushes I’ve tried have lasted up to a month before needing more power.

💰 Best deal we've found

Currently at Amazon, the Oral-B Pro 3 is on offer for £40, down from £100, which is an absolute steal with a 60% discount. It also comes in a range of colours: black, white and pink, so each family member can have a different hue.

A similar offer can be found at Boots, reduced from £100 to £40 and directly on Oral-B's website where it's on sale for £86, with postage to pay on top.

Or, if you want to buy the brush and a pack of replacement heads so you're stocked up, you can get a bundle deal, which comes with a pack of four heads and currently has over 50% off.

If you want to stock up on replacement heads, this bundle is also a great deal.
