I hate wearing makeup in the summer — but I use this tinted SPF moisturizer every day

I tried this $58 "holy grail" tinted moisturizer from Sephora — here's my honest review.

I am not proud to admit this, but I rarely wore sunscreen up until a few months ago.

Despite the advice of all dermatologists and anti-aging marvels, SPF has always fallen into the "I should, but I'm lazy" beauty category for me. On the beach? Absolutely. Walking to work in the winter? Hardly ever.

That is until I tried the Origins GinZing SPF 40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer. Now, much to the praise of my skincare-obsessed friends, I never go a day without it.

What I like about the Origins GinZing SPF 40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer

As someone who prefers to wear as little makeup as possible, I feel like the Origins tinted moisturizer was made for me. The formula evened out my complexion and, true to its claims, gave me an instant glow. It's the embodiment of the no-makeup-makeup look. Because it's a tinted moisturizer and not a foundation, it doesn't provide full coverage but gives a nice and natural finish. Most importantly, it offers SPF 40 — a must-have for the summer months.

What reviewers say

On Sephora, Origins's tinted moisturizer has racked up nearly 23,000 "loves" and a 4.1-star average rating.

"I have been obsessed with this since day one," lauds one reviewer. "I absolutely love how it gives you such a nice glow. [It's] perfect for a boost of confidence. — I am a lifer! Highly highly recommend!"

It's the "absolute best tinted moisturizer," says another. It leaves skin feeling "both moisturized and glowy."

What the GinZing SPF 40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer looks like out of the package versus rubbed in.

"This is the magic product y'all. [It's] very hydrating and lightweight and feels like I'm not wearing anything on my face," writes a third shopper.

While some dub the GinZing SPF 40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer a "holy grail" product, others say to pass if you have fair skin.

It "missed the boat for me," writes one reviewer. "There is way too much bronzer that it turns your skin orange."

The verdict

If you love a minimal beauty routine in the hot summer months, I'd recommend checking out Origins' tinted SPF 40 moisturizer. The skin-friendly product is the embodiment of the no-makeup-makeup look and it will help protect your skin against the sun's harsh rays. However, some reviewers say it "missed the boat" for them, as they found there was "too much bronzer" in the product — something to keep in mind when heading to checkout.
