Panerai has announced a new watch in its Luminor family, the Luminor Quaranta Carbotech.

The model comes in a comparatively-small-for-Panerai 40mm case.

In a debut for the line it features a case made of Carbotech, the brand’s proprietary carbon composite material that's 80 per cent lighter than steel.

This watch is also green.

The green sandwich matte dial is highlighted by white Super-LumiNova on the dial and hands, that glows green in the dark.

The strap is military rubber green.

Other recognisable Panerai elements are all present and correct – the crown protecting device, the sandwich dial and the significant lugs.

The Luminor Quaranta Carbotech runs on the brand’s automatic P.900 movement, comes with a three-day power reserve, and is waterproof to 300 meters.

The use of new material science puts a premium on the price – the regular steel version will set you back almost £7,000, this model is almost double that.

While not the smallest Panerai Luminor on the market – there’s the Panerai Due line, which was launched in 2016 and clocks in at 38mm – this new model may be seen as answering the demands of a market for smaller watches.

Panerais are famously big pieces of wrist real estate, reaching 44mm or even 47mm.

“The new Luminor Quaranta Carbotech PAM01526 [is] satering to the evolving needs of our clientele,” says Panerai’s CEO, Jean-Marc Pontroué.

“It is designed to be remarkably light with enhanced wearability and durability. A significant milestone in our journey, combining our timeless heritage with our manufacture’s advanced technical expertise.”
