This is not a drill: You can get some of Patagonia's best-known pieces, like the Nano Puff, Better Sweater and Retro-X jackets, at up to 40% off. (Patagonia)

As someone who loves to be outside as often as possible (yes, even during winter) this is my favorite time of year to stock up on clothing and gear. Why? Sales like Patagonia's end-of-season bash, which offers up to 40% off some of the outfitter's most popular items. From the comfortable, stylish Better Sweater to the versatile, surprisingly warm Nano Puff jacket, these cold-weather essentials are designed to keep you warm, dry and weather-ready.

It's more than just jackets. The iconic Black Hole duffel — the perfect bag for everything from weekend escapes to weeklong expeditions — is also discounted. Whether you're hiking, skiing or just layering up for brisk morning walks with coffee in hand, this sale is your chance to upgrade your outdoor wardrobe without demolishing that new year budget. Don't wait — these rare sales tend to mean stock goes quickly.

There's a reason the Better Sweater is so popular. It's stylish, comfortable and, most importantly, incredibly warm. It also comes in plenty of different versions, from the pullover here (in both women's and men's) to the oversized coat and hoodie, all of which are on sale.

I have traveled all over the world with my Black Hole duffels. They've been thrown in the back of a truck on long road trips, rained on, snowed on and dropped onto the tarmac as they were being loaded onto a plane. While they have a scuff here and there, they still protect all of my clothing and gear like they did when they were brand new. The 70- and 100-liter are also marked down, for those trips when you have to pack literally everything.

The first time I threw on a Nano Puff jacket, I thought to myself, "How the heck is this thing going to keep me warm?" It's way less puffy than down-insulated jackets I have worn, but it managed to do the trick in the middle of the desert in the wintertime as temps dipped below freezing, all without making me look like the Michelin man. This jacket is on sale for both men and women in a rainbow of colors, including hooded, nonhooded and vest versions in all sizes.

Legend has it that when Yvon Chouinard first started this outdoor-wear company named after the remote region in South America, the high-pile fleece used in the jackets was sourced from toilet seat covers. (Wow were the '70s a wild time!) Fifty years later, the fabric sourcing has changed, but the design has remained relatively the same — and this jacket is as stylish, warm and windproof as ever. The men's version is on sale too.

This ultralight fanny pack (let's just call it what it is!) has become one of my favorite items for traveling as a parent. Everything I need (wipes, a spare diaper, medication, etc.) fits nicely into this pack and lets me keep my hands free. Not bad for only $24.

This jacket has kept me toasty warm everywhere, from the Colorado Rockies to Iceland to Antarctica. Incredibly lightweight and packable thanks to the 800-fill down insulation, it also has big enough pockets for everything you need to bring with you, from gloves, hats and hand warmers to your phone or camera. It also comes with a convenient stuff sack. Shop the men's version here.

Want an incredibly warm parka that's a bit less techie and a bit more stylish than the Fitz Roy? The Jackson Glacier Parka is what you're after. It's long enough to keep out the cold when you're sitting, as well as wind and waterproof. It's sustainable too, relying on recycled down as insulation. The men's parka is on sale too.

When I was younger, I had no probably hoisting a 50-pound duffle bag onto my shoulder and walking through an airport. These days, wheels are the way to go. My biggest pet peeve about wheeled luggage is how often it breaks after taking a beating by baggage handlers.

Well, worry no more. This bag includes back-up wheel axles that allow you to easily repair the bag. Need a bigger repair than that? With Patagonia's Iron Clad warranty, you can ship it to the company or bring it to your nearest Patagonia store for repairs, no questions asked. It's also available in 70- and 100-liter sizes, as well as a variety of colors.

At nearly 40% off, this beanie isn't just a stylish way to keep you warm, it's an inexpensive one. It's made from a blend of recycled wool and nylon.

If you live somewhere that has a winter season, odds are you've seen this jacket before. Filled with 800-fill down to keep you toasty warm with a weather-resistant outer layer that sheds light rain and snow, it's a favorite for one simple reason: It just works.

It's also available in a hooded and vest version, in men's, kids and infant/toddler.

This zig-zag pattern isn't just for looks — it makes this pullover warm but lightweight and incredibly breathable so you don't work up too much of a sweat when you're moving outdoors. It's also available in a full-zip hooded version for as well as men's and kids.

If you've never used packing cubes before, then you don't know what you're missing. They're the easiest way to keep everything organized, whether you're hitting a new city every night on a trip through Europe or posting up for two weeks on the beach somewhere. Cheaper cubes are out there, and I've ruined my fair share when they burst at the seams. This one will not only protect whatever is inside from the elements, but it's made to be stuffed as full as you can get it, and if it does somehow tear (I haven't had one burst on me yet) it's covered by Patagonia's lifetime warranty.

Choose from multiple sizes and colors.
