People With ADHD, I Want To Know Everything You Assumed Was "Normal" Until A Neurotypical Person Said "Um, No, Actually"
If you have ADHD, you know that the symptoms can range from classic to complicated. You might be well acquainted with common symptoms like hyperfocus or difficulty getting on task; but even for people who've been diagnosed for what seems like forever, there are still some symptoms you might not realize are symptoms for years.
So, I want to know: what ADHD thing did you think was 'normal' until a neurotypical person told you otherwise?
Maybe you've always needed a background distraction — music, TV, coffee shop noise — to focus on study, sleep, or chores, and didn't realize until later that a lot of people simply do those things in silence. What was that like?

Perhaps you have auditory processing issues, and it's difficult for you to focus on someone speaking when there's too much other noise going on. If you thought you were just hard of hearing, or this was just normal, and found out later that it's actually just your ADHD — tell me about it!
Maybe when you tell a story, you go on unnecessary tangents or include random details (because your brain knows what the connection is)...and then later, you've learned that, too, is an ADHD thing. I want to hear about it.
Perhaps you learned you do something a little differently through a conversation with a parent, a college friend, or your therapist. If you've ever had a little 'eureka' moment, do tell; I always find those fascinating.
Or maybe it's something big or small that I haven't even thought about. Whatever it is, I want you to tell me about it in the comments below! You never know who you'll be helping.

Who knows — your answer might be included in an upcoming BuzzFeed article!
