Anyone who has been to a music festival in 2017 will recognize the crochet bikini as one of the must-have items of the season. These ’70s-style little numbers are built less to actually hit the water and more to show off some skin all while looking good on Instagram.

Vogue Paris labeled the crochet bikini the summer’s biggest trend, calling it “fun and spontaneous” and “as sexy as it comes.” You can buy one from Nanette Lepore for $96, another from KIINI from $165, or even a $16 version from Forever21. However, as more and more Internet savvy users are learning, you can make your own.

Some talented people are taking things into their own hands and learning how to crochet, all for the greater good of looking cute in the summer sun. If social media is any indication, the bikinis don’t require a mastery of crochet.

YouTuber Dana B’s DIY Crochet Bikini Tutorial, posted last year, has over a quarter of a million views. The tutorial will be most helpful if you already have a basic understanding of questions like what yarn to buy, what “chaining” is, and how to “double crochet.” (There are also tutorials out there like “How to Crochet for Absolute Beginners” that might be the best way to start if you’ve never before made something out of yarn.)

YouTuber Krishtun takes the rare (and necessary) approach of teaching how to make a crochet bikini bottom.

This “Afrodita” tutorial also comes with written instructions, for those who can’t crochet and YouTube all at once.

Of course, once your bikini is done, the next most important step is to show it off.

Plan B, for those of us who just can’t craft, is the same as always: Just order it on Etsy.
