Photographer redefines ‘American Beauty’ with amazing body-positive photo shoot

What does the American Beauty look like?

For photographer Carey Fruth, there is no one definition. She set out to prove that with her own take on the iconic rose petal scene from the film “American Beauty.”

Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you’re likely familiar with the fantasy dream scene where a young, thin and blonde woman (Mena Suvari) sensually lies on a bed of rose petals.

Drawing inspiration from that, Fruth photographed 14 women lying naked on a bed of lilacs, proving beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, colours and ages.

“Almost every image you see in mainstream media is of one type of woman, thin white women to be specific,” Fruth told the Huffington Post.

“But that is not actually the majority of women in our country look like. America is made up of all types of women. Women who are hungry to see themselves represented in a beautiful way. And why shouldn’t they?”
