Prince Harry Discussed Fixing the “Root” of Systemic Racism in a Candid Conversation

Prince Harry is continuing to speak out on racism and online hate speech.
In a conversation with Color of Change president Rashad Robinson, Harry discussed systemic racism, compassion, and using privilege to take action for change.
"We have to go to the root of the problem, to the source of the problem, and actually fix it there," he said. "It’s going to take every single one of us. This is not down to the Black community, this is down to every single person who is on the planet right now."
Harry introduced the conversation by mentioning that he and Robinson had been talking over the past few months about racial injustice in the wake of the killing of George Floyd.
Speaking from his home in Los Angeles, Prince Harry said the issue of online hate speech will be "a huge part" of the mission of his and Meghan Markle's Archewell foundation moving forward.
The conversation is a continuation of Prince Harry's recent public efforts to stem hate online. In June, it was reported that he and Meghan would be supporting Stop Hate For Profit, a campaign urging brands not to advertise on Facebook as a way to hold the social media network accountable for its failure to remove misinformation and racist content from its platform.

In an op-ed for Fast Company published last week, he called for a change in the way online platforms have contributed to "a crisis of hate."
"When we do the right thing, when we create safe spaces both online and off — everyone wins," he wrote. "Even the platforms themselves."
