Prince Harry once made a heartbreaking confession about what his future children will mean for Princess Diana's legacy

Princess Diana has been gone for 22 years, but her two sons have ensured her legacy lives on with their important charity work, their parenting style, and of course, through their own children. Prince William and Kate Middleton even named Princess Charlotte after his late mother: Her full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, secures Diana's place in the British royal family.

In addition to Charlotte's middle name, many royal fans predicted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would name their firstborn Diana if it was a girl. Though the couple instead welcomed baby Archie on May 6th, there has been another way that Prince Harry strives honor his late mother, who tragically passed away when he was only 12.

In 2016, the then 31-year-old royal revealed that Princess Diana continues to impact "everything" he does, including in his future as a father, even two decades after her death. In a heartbreaking interview with ABC's Robin Roberts back in 2016, Harry maintained, "We will do everything we can to make sure that she's never forgotten and carry on all the special gifts, as such, that she had and that she portrayed while she was alive."

He continued:

"I hope she's looking down with tears in her eyes being incredibly proud of what we've established. I'm sure she's longing for me to have kids so she can be a grandmother again. I hope, once again, that everything we do privately and officially that it makes her proud."

Since baby Archie's arrival on May 6th, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have honored Diana in a rainbow of ways. The couple marked Meghan's first Mother's Day back in May with a photo of baby Archie's feet in a field of Forget Me Nots, Diana's favorite flower. They've also shared many of Princess Diana's quotes, including one on the impact of kindness.
