Prince William and Kate Middleton Reveal That Their Sons Play Rugby
There are certainly plenty of ways that day to day parenting is different for the royals, but there are also some ways where royal parents are just like the rest of us. Case in point: Kate Middleton and Prince William recently revealed that they spend the weekends traveling to and from their sons’s sports competitions.
The Waleses shared the tidbit at a rugby match between England and Wales in Cardiff on Saturday—where they found themselves cheering for opposing teams. William, as Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, naturally threw his support behind the Welsh side, while Kate, Patron of the Rugby Football Union, cheered on England.
Before the start of the match, the royals met with some injured players who are receiving support from the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust, in the process revealing that both of their boys are also avid players. “At weekends we go from one competition to the next,” William told them. Kate further explained, “Louis is six and he's just started touch rugby and George is 11 and he plays a bit more. They do really enjoy it.” She added, “They've been exposed to lots of different sports.”
Of course, the whole Wales family is famously sporty, with William and Kate often participating in athletic activities during their schedule of events, like a netball game they played while learning about young athletes helped by the charity SportsAid in 2023.
Kate, who has always been considered one of the sportiest royals, has been sitting out some of the activities since returning to royal duties following her cancer treatment last year, but her kids have obviously been carrying on the athletic torch.
