Each year, the royal family travels to Sandringham to spend Christmas together. But in the lead-up to the holiday, they lean into the festive spirit.

“When Prince William and Prince Harry were young, we'd do Christmas baking and that,” King Charles and Princess Diana's former chef Carolyn Robb told T&C back in 2022. “The meringues from [Christmas at the Palace] are probably the thing they'd have enjoyed the most.”

In her cookbook, Robb shares her snowflake meringue recipe—one that you can make at home this holiday season. (Country Living has a recipe online, too, writing, “These darling edible decorations are delicious on their own, but can easily be used to dress up any dessert table, festive cake, or other wintry treats.”

“Christmas is the time of year when everybody can get in the kitchen and cook as a family,” Robb, who was head chef at Kensington Palace said. “I always think it's really good fun to do that with children. You can be really creative—there are so many different things you can do. It's really just to give people a bit of inspiration. And I hope it'll appeal to all ages as well.”

Now that Princes William and Harry have families of their own, they are likely starting their own family traditions, while still embracing royal Christmas rules (like opening presents on Christmas Eve).

“I love the holidays,” Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex revealed recently in an interview with Marie Claire. “At first, I think as a mom with children you’re just enjoying having them there, but they’re not understanding everything that’s happening yet. But now we’re at the age where I just can’t wait to see it through their lens every year.”

She added, “We’re always making sure we have something fun to do. Like any other family, you spend time having a great meal, and then what do you do? Play games, all the same stuff, someone brings a guitar—fun.”
