Princess Charlotte may make history when the new royal baby is born
Princess Charlotte will make history with the arrival of a younger brother.
If Duchess Kate's third child is a boy, Charlotte will be the first female royal in history to not lose her spot in line for the throne to a male heir thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act 2013. Before the act was passed, which happened when Kate was pregnant with Prince George, the birth of a male heir would bump an older female out of her place in the succession line.
The new rule dictates that succession is based fully on birth order and is applicable to all royals born after October 28, 2011. Right now, Prince Charles will take the throne after Queen Elizabeth.

Prince William is second in line to the throne, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte third and fourth, respectively. When Kate and William's third child is born, he or she will be fifth in line to the throne. Prince Harry will then be sixth in line to the throne.
The world is anticipating the arrival of Kate and William's third child, with preparations already taking place outside of the uber-exclusive Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital. The maternity room has been on lock-down since mid-March and will cost Kate and Wills around $9,650 a day.
