Queen Elizabeth Calls Climate Change Inaction "Irritating"
Queen Elizabeth is expressing her own frustration at the lack of action surrounding climate change. During a conversation at the opening of the Welsh Parliament in Cardiff, the Queen was overheard complaining about climate policy, and world leaders who will not implement concrete plans to combat environmental destruction.
The British monarch was captured on video speaking with the Duchess of Cornwall and Elin Jones, the parliament's presiding officer. The remarks were not meant for the public, but they were picked up on a microphone.
At first, the Queen appears to be speaking about the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, set to occur the first week of November, stating, "Extraordinary isn’t it...I’ve been hearing all about COP...still don’t know who is coming...no idea,"
She then is reported to say, "We only know about people who are not coming... It’s really irritating when they talk, but they don’t do."

This week, two of the Queen's grandsons have also spoken out about climate change. On October 15, Prince Harry released an opinion piece, published in the Washington Post, advocating against corporate oil drilling in Africa's Okavango River Basin. Prince William, meanwhile, will appear at the first Earthshot Prize Awards this weekend. The Duke of Cambridge launched the initiative to reward innovative ideas solving the world's environmental problems. He also spoke out this week, criticizing space tourism, and noting that the money should instead be directed towards combatting global climate change.
"We need some of the world's greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live," William said, per CNN. "That really is quite crucial to be focusing on this one rather than giving up and heading out into space to try and think of solutions for the future."
