Queen Elizabeth II's Royal Style: Her Monochrome Looks

Historic traditions and modern technology came together in a symbolic way today: Queen Elizabeth II just sent her very first tweet!

The British matriarch tweeted via the @BritishMonarchy account (and looked mighty endearing while doing so, we might add) at the opening of the "Information Age" exhibition at London's Science Museum. Her 136-character message expressed hope that "people will enjoy visiting" and she signed it as "Elizabeth R."

The curious initial actually stands for "regina," which is Latin for queen, and it is how Her Majesty the Queen signs official documents.

For Twitter users who were not at the event to witness the queen remove her glove to type out her tweet on an iPad, the @BritishMonarchy account quickly confirmed that the message was indeed written by Queen Elizabeth:

And she wasn't the only royal to make a Twitter debut this year: Prince Harry also tweeted for the very first time in May, when he sent out a message to ask for support for the Invictus Games.

We hope Prince William and mom-to-be Duchess Kate get on board the royal family Twitter trend soon!
