This Is The Real Reason 'Emily In Paris' Is Leaving Paris Behind For Rome
No, Emily in Rome doesn't quite have the same ring to it as Emily in Paris does, but there's actually another reason as to why the hit Netflix series' upcoming fifth season will be heading to the Italian capital.
In an interview with TVLine, Emily in Paris showrunner Darren Star said that he’s excited to explore new plot lines and cultural changes after four seasons in the same city and 'expand the universe of the show.'

'Just at the point that Emily has gotten comfortable in Paris, she’s sort of thrown into another country where she’s going to experience some cultural differences,' he added. 'And also, I think there’s cultural differences to explore — and we do — between French and Italians. It’s a whole new world, but it doesn’t mean that we’re leaving Paris.'
Indeed, in the season four finale of Emily in Paris, things had really taken a turn for the series' protagonist, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins). She has a new Italian boyfriend, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), as well as a new job after Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) announced her new branch opening in Rome which Emily will be leading.
Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, Collins said she’s looking forward to seeing what happens between her character and new beau Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) in the upcoming fifth season.
'Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,' she added. 'We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.'
