'Reclaim narrative' at Black History Month event
The organiser of an annual black history event has said this year will focus on "reclaiming narrative" and creating a platform to "showcase culture".
Bernadetta Omondi encouraged people from all walks of life to join the Black History Month celebration in Cathedral Square, Peterborough, on Saturday.
A range of food, music and dance will be on offer to celebrate culture, history and community.
While she encouraged people to stop by, Ms Omondi added: "Black history is not just October... we showcase all year round because history is bigger than one month."
Black History Month was originally founded to recognise the contributions made by people of African and Caribbean backgrounds in the UK.
It has since expanded to include the history of all black people.
Ms Omondi, who has organised the celebrational events in Peterborough for more than 10 years, said it was important to learn from each other.
She told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Everybody has history and something to say, that is what makes the human race beautiful.
"We want to have a platform where different people show their culture...we are all humans who come together.
"Through dialogue, education and information we can all learn from each other, we are all teachers."
The free Peterborough event will take place from 11:00BST to 19:00BST featuring the Dubafrique drummers and dancers, Yaram Zimba Masquerade, as well as stalls, food and African artefacts.
