Reese Witherspoon Cried When Her Daughter Ava Left For College

Reese Witherspoon's lookalike daughter Ava Phillippe is finishing her freshmen year of college-and Reese had a very relatable reaction to her daughter's departure for college.

Reese, who is returning to television in Big Little Lies season two next month, opened up about how her family transitioned as Ava left for college during an appearance on The Ellen Show. "It's weird when your children go away to college," the actress told Ellen Degeneres. "It's hard. I might have gone into her empty room, laid down on her bed and cried when she went to college."

Reese added that luckily Ava is returning home in the near future. "I thought that she'd be gone but she's coming back," Reese said. She added that she "never imagined how it felt" for her mom when she left for college-which then prompted Reese to apologize to her mom because she never actually returned home.

As Reese explained, she dropped out of college and moved to Los Angeles for work. "I went to college for one year and then I started making movies and I moved to L.A. and I never came back," Reese told Ellen. "I'm sorry mom! My poor mom."

This isn't the first time Reese has given fans an inside look at her family life. Ava and Reese's other two children, Deacon and Tennessee, often appear on her Instagram feed, where the Draper James founder shares sweet family photos. Just before Christmas in 2018, Reese posted the family's Christmas card photo, featuring her husband Jim Toth and all three children in front of a Christmas tree:

Almost a year ago, Reese shared another family snap of Ava, Deacon, and Tennessee in honor of the end of the school year, noting that Ava was graduating from high school, Deacon from middle school, and Tennessee from preschool.
