Ruth Langsford has spoken out after her husband Eamonn Holmes said he'd turned down the chance to go to Russia – and earn rather a lot of cash – ahead of this year's World Cup.

Explaining his decision back when he made it, Eamonn told the Daily Mirror it would be 'selfish' to go 'at a time when Ruth has gone stellar'.

'They offered me more than I have been offered to do anything,' he explained. 'But I don't think it would be advisable.

'It impacts on who you are and what you do, and it would impact on Ruth's career,' he added.

'This is Ruth's moment. She did a simple thing on Twitter the other day and there were a million hits. This is her moment. This is her time.'

Appearing on today's Loose Women (February 19), Ruth responded to Eamonn's comments, saying: 'He was offered a job with Russia Today and it would have meant him being away a lot.

'He was saying, well I'm [i.e. Ruth] really busy at the moment, I've got more work than I ever had – if you asked me 10 years ago, I would've probably said I'd have been put out to grass by now.

'It's supporting each other,' she added. 'When he was saying it was "Ruth's moment", he means, 'That wouldn't be fair for me to go away because that would leave the burden of running the family house, the kids and things to me.'

'So he made that decision for both of us.'
