As a style enthusiast, one of my biggest pet peeves is when clothes start to show their age. On one hand, it means that they’re well-loved pieces of my wardrobe, but on the other hand, they can sometimes appear sloppy in certain circumstances.

Sweaters in particular are tricky, since materials like wool and cashmere are prone to pilling with wear. Luckily, one device that I’ve been using now for more than a year has made it easy to keep them looking their best.

The Conair Battery Operated Fabric Defuzzer has become my secret weapon for preserving knitwear, which is basically all I live in between October and March. This affordable little gadget has probably saved me hundreds of dollars by eliminating the need to get rid of worn-out clothes and helping to refresh them instead.

This battery-operated device replaces potentially destructive ways of removing pills from sweaters (such as razors or knives) and instead uses a rotating blade set safely set behind a metal grate to whisk away imperfections. It has three settings to suit the size and knit of virtually any type of fabric, and is even safe for delicate materials like cashmere.

After removing the pills, this defuzzer also collects the lint in a separate compartment that makes for easy cleaning and removal once you’re done. It does tend to fill up pretty quickly, so if you’re planning to tackle a large pile of items at once, just know that you’ll need to empty the lint as you go.

Shoppers have taken to showing off their impressive results online, with one five-star reviewer writing, “I really like this product. I was a little hesitant to buy it based on some of the negative reviews, but so far it's done exactly as expected...Photo: back of 5+ year old cardigan. Left side is untouched, right side is after five minutes of using the defuzzer - looks almost new.”

Not just for use on sweaters, I’ve also used this little defuzzer to take away lint from pillows and couch cushions as well, making them look as good as new after a quick pass with this little gadget.

If you’re interested in testing the Conair Battery Operated Fabric Defuzzer for yourself, now’s the chance to grab it while it’s on sale. Regularly retailing for $17, for a limited time it’s available for just $15.
