This SC town ranked among nation’s most affordable places to buy a beach home in 2024
Myrtle Beach’s abundance of condo units has landed it among the top places in the U.S. to purchase an affordable beach home, according to Realtor.com.
The city was ranked No. 5 by the real estate listings website for its lower housing prices, primarily due to its high density of condo units. The median list price of a home in Myrtle Beach is $299,500, the site said.
The ranking also touted the city’s 60-mile stretch of sandy beaches, large number of golf courses and popular amusements such as Ripley’s Aquarium, Hollywood Wax Museum and the 187-foot SkyWheel that towers over the boardwalk.
The site’s ranking noted that some beach towns on the list, such as Myrtle Beach, made the cut primarily because of their abundance of condos, which are typically priced lower than single-family homes and bring down the median list prices. It cautioned home buyers to consider monthly homeowners association fees and flood insurance, which are not calculated into the rankings and can “significantly affect affordability.”

Atlantic City, New Jersey. Median list price of $239,000
Deerfield Beach, Florida. Median list price of $239,950
Dennis Port, Massachusetts. Median list price of $277,500

Corpus Christi, Texas. Median list price of $315,000
Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Median list price of $340,000
Grand Isle, Louisiana. Median list price of $375,000
Newport, Oregon. Median list price of $399,950
Ocean Shores, Washington. Median list price of $425,000
The rankings were determined by median list prices in March for single-family homes, including condominiums but excluding mobile homes, according to Realtor.com. Beach towns had to include a sandy, public-access ocean within the city limits and only one beach town per state was included in the top 10.
