How to see Prima Facie in the cinema: Another chance to see groundbreaking Jodie Comer play
Jodie Comer’s legal drama Prima Facie is to be shown in London cinemas after its award-winning run on the West End stage.
The actress starred as Tessa, a barrister who defends men accused of sexual assault, whose view of the legal system changes when she is sexually assaulted herself.
The one-woman show, written for the stage and then adapted into a novel by Suzie Miller, won a Tony Award and Comer’s performance was hailed by a range of critics.
“It’s an extraordinarily gutsy and rich performance by Comer in only her second ever stage role,” wrote the Standard’s theatre critic Nick Curtis upon its release in April 2022.
The play started out life in Sydney but came to London in 2022. After a successful run at the Harold Pinter Theatre, it moved to Broadway last year – allowing Comer to win the Tony.
In her acceptance speech, she said: “This woman in this play has been my greatest teacher and I have to thank Suzie Miller for that, who wrote this magnificent piece. Without her writing that I would not be here so this feels just as much Suzie’s as it is mine.”
Comer later told the Standard’s Nick Curtis that “the show is the thing I am proudest of in my life”.
And while the chance to see it in the flesh has passed for now, the National Theatre filmed one London performance and will be showing it under the NT Live banner.
Here is how you can see it.
