Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have a lot in common: they both boast internationally-successful music careers, a group of A-list BFFs, are heavily invested in philanthropy and charity work, and have dated some of the world's most in-demand bachelors.

So, this might explain why 26-year-old Gomez - who is ELLE's October cover star - thought it was about time to gush about her friend of over a decade in an Instagram Live session with her fans on Saturday morning.

'Taylor is awesome,' she told her 143m Instagram followers. 'I love her. She's amazing. I just talked to her today. She is literally like my big sister, I tell her everything. She is so smart, it freaks me out.'

In July, Swift was unable to celebrate her friend's 26th birthday as she was performing in New Jersey at the time, but took to social media to reveal she was eating a birthday cake in the 'Bad Liar' singer's honour.

'Will I let distance stop me from celebrating my best friend's birthday?' Swift said. 'I mean, I could but why would I want 2?'

Opening up about their respective romantic relationships over the yers, the singer revealed last year that the whole thing was 'hysterical'.

'It was the best thing we got out of those relationship,' joked Selena when talking about her friendship with Taylor.

'They're lovely, by the way. We're all friends now. We were young, you know, it's a different time.'

Gomez's live video, which has since been deleted, gave her fans a glimpse inside the singer-turned-actress private life.

On her Instagram Stories later in the day, the singer said her fans had been asking her about how she copes with anxiety and depression, which prompted her to suggest they listen to the song 'This Girl' by Christian artist Lauren Daigle.

'This song in particular makes me feel like I'm talking about that feeling [anxiety and depression], you know, like I'm not going anywhere but I'm just showing up,' she communicated.

'But it's really hard to not get worked up or upset when you're constantly feel like you're doing the right thing and you're showing up for people and you're wanting to be nice and you're doing all this stuff but you're like "Why am I not feeling good?".'

Yesterday, she also revealed some behind-the-scenes footage of her working on new music.

In an Instagram clip, Gomez sings a few notes of a single but can't help but continually burst into a fit of giggles with her friend.
