Judge Ken Jeong Was Moved to Tears by the Serpent's Unveiling on 'The Masked Singer'
Among many fur- and hair-covered creatures on season 4 of The Masked Singer, a scaly figure managed to wow fans and judged alike. The Serpent made its debut on the Sept. 30 episode, blowing viewers away with his rendition of "500 Miles." The guesses immediately started pouring in, with many assuming the Serpent had ties to Broadway. (Perhaps a Hamilton star? Or maybe former Rent lead Taye Diggs.)
So although maybe were sad to see the Serpent eliminated on Nov. 18, they were also happy to see who was hiding beneath the mask. And the unveiling left many shocked, and judge Ken Jeong in tears.
So who is the Serpent on The Masked Singer?
Well, it's someone you may not know all the well: Dr. Elvis Francois, aka "Dr. Elvis." The orthopedic surgeon became a public figure earlier this year when a video of him singing "Imagine" went viral. Dr. Elvis, who is a resident at the Mayo Clinic, told CBS This Morning in March that "music can go places medicine can't go," and hoped his performances could bring some peace during pandemic times.
Dr. Elvis caught the eye of several high-level people in the entertainment world, including producers at Fox, who asked him to perform on After the Mask, a series that aired following the season 3 episodes of The Masked Singer. He performed a duet with judge Nicole Scherzinger, and moved many to tears.
So how were we to guess there was an actual doctor beneath the Serpent costume? Here were a few of the big clues.

Following the Serpent's reveal, Jeong took a moment to applaud Dr. Elvis not only for his recent performances, but for the hope he's spread during difficult times.
"Your version of imagine got us through the pandemic," Jeong said while fighting back tears. "In a concert of stars that had Elton John, Billy Joel, everybody, the best moment in that living room concert was you. And I told my wife, who is also a doctor, 'you know that’s what a real doctor does.'"
Jeong ended his praise by telling viewers that "this guy is smarter than any doctor on the planet, and there is just truly no one more talented than him."
Dr. Elvis was touched by the praised and honored to have been a part of the show.
"This is unbelievable," he said. "It’s a once in a lifetime kind of situation. Very different from what I do on a day-to-day basis but something I’ll never forget for the rest of my life."
He also thanked the judges for "putting a smile" on patients' faces and added that The Masked Singer is "an incredible way for us to move forward together."
