The Sexist Reason Why Katy Perry Can't Be a Mean Judge on American Idol Reboot

[MUSIC] I got paid more than, pretty much, any guy that's been on that show. And, by the way, I love men, so I'm a paid woman, and I'm ready. I love it. For a beautiful man. [MUSIC] This show is about finding real talent, making real people's dreams come true and additionally hearing their stories. I really wanted to join this show at the right time. I always have. We've always been in negotiations for Several years it's never never been right, but now when they kinda like brought it to a new home and they wanna reshape it, now is the time for this remodeling. While no one can fill Simon Cowell's shoes on ABC's upcoming revival of American Idol, it certainly won't be Katy Perry.
"I'm blunt, but I can't be mean 'cause I'm a woman," Perry, one of three new judges, joked during the 2018 Winter TCA Press Tour on Monday, E! News reports. Executive producer Trish Kinane clarified the pop star's persona on the highly-anticipated reboot: "She's not mean, but she's brutally honest."
Perry went on to explain how no one can be the new Cowell because he remains on the show as an executive.
"I love Simon, he's my favorite judge," she said. "I think we all have our expertise. Luke [Bryan] can speak on a lot more country things, Lionel [Richie] can speak on everything because he's a legend, I have my pop lane... I think we all bring strengths."

For Perry, she revealed that the "biggest gift" of joining the show after "circling" it for the several years is the chance to work with so many inspiring contestants.
"The biggest gift for me personally is being re-inspired by their raw dreams, their raw ambition, their hope, and be like, I was there ten years ago," she said. "I had two cars repossessed, I had three labels drop me, I was couch-surfing...I was eating Trader Joes' frozen chicken nuggets every day of the week. I know exactly where you are."
American Idol premieres Sunday, March 11 on ABC.
