Shemar Moore Gets Emotional Talking About Family CBS Photo Archive

Shemar Moore is opening up about the impact an important life moment had on him... and how it brought him the people he truly loves most.

Ahead of S.W.A.T. season 8 returning to CBS on January 31, the actor appeared as a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show. On the January 27 taping, host Jennifer Hudson brought up how Shemar is happily raising his 2-year-old daughter, Frankie (who he shares with now-ex partner Jesiree Dizon). As a photo of the toddler appeared onscreen, it led Shemar to get nostalgic about how his late mother Marilyn (who died in February 2020) would've loved to see Frankie grow up. But he also shared how he believed Marilyn was instrumental in bringing Frankie into his life so he wouldn't be by himself.

"You all know that mama's up in heaven, and her dream was to see this happen," he said in a clip posted on Instagram. "She wanted to be a grandma and mama made sure I wasn't alone. I can't prove it, but I think between God and my mama, they made sure that I wasn't alone."

But that's not all Shemar had to say. He also detailed how special the two's relationship was and how they were both best friends and partners in crime. But when she passed away, Shemar felt like he had no direction — despite seeming like he had everything he could ever want.

"I lived my whole life to make her proud, and when she left, I was lost," he added. "I was like, 'But I'm blessed. I have a good job, I've got stuff, I've got a house, I've got toys. People know my name.' But I was in a place of like, 'So what? What does it all mean? Why am I doing this?' And then little Frankie came along, and that's what it's all about right there."

When viewers watched the emotional tribute Shemar gave to his late mother and the family he has now, his words struck a chord within them.

"The way he talks about his mom is beautiful ❤️," one person wrote. "Mama Marilyn made sure you were not alone. She is watching from above and super proud," another penned. "Listening to the sound of @shemarfmoore voice and listening to how he was talking about his mom, almost made him cry and what got me tearing up, is listening to the sound of his voice when he was about to cry. That got to me," a different follower added.

We so love to see this, and we can tell just how much Shemar truly loves his mom even after she's gone. What's more, he wants to make sure he's doing the same thing Marilyn did for him for his daughter.

"You know, most of my whole life was trying to make my mother proud," he told Good Housekeeping in March 2024. "Now, I want to do that for Frankie. Because I ain't gonna be here forever. So, in that time, I'm going to give Frankie everything I got, just like my mother did for me."
