Suns out, buns out. Or in this case, skies out thighs out. Because in case you haven’t noticed, the men of Hollywood—and the sports world—are bringing back a very important ‘70s trend: short shorts. You know and love them, and so do hunks like Paul Mescal and Donald Glover.

Undies have been at the forefront of fashion in 2024. From hot pants and boy shorts to Miu Miu-branded briefs, we’ve seen all of our favorite ladies—Kendall Jenner, Sydney Sweeney, Dua Lipa, to name a few—bring the trend from the runways to the streets. Now, it’s the men’s turn to ditch the pants and show off the parts where the sun don’t shine.

For some, it’s all in the name of fashion (Chris Pine’s tiny red corduroy shorts come to mind). After Valentino’s Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2024 show, tiny trousers started to pop up everywhere and on pretty much everyone. Pedro Pascal arrived to the Met Gala in the designer's quad-baring shorts and a trench coat, while Jacob Elordi styled his pair with a sexy little leather blazer and tie.

The trend, however, isn't just on the red carpets and catwalks, though. Professional tennis players have brought the winning trend to the courts, and in the age of Challengers, you can expect tenniscore to be everywhere this summer both on and off the court. Even make believe ballers Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist wore not-short-enough trunks that deliciously sway to the beat of house music in the Luca Guadagnino film. For others, it's purely functional: Jeremy Allen White, I'd imagine, likes to feel the wind on his thighs while he's running in the Los Angeles heat. Even Domino’s (yes like the pizza place) is getting in on the fun with new uniforms, inspired by Mescal and his Sweet Green-run attire.

The trend is perfectly suitable for the hot summer months when minimal clothing is ideal. However, editorial and celebrity stylist Fabio Immediato tells InStyle that we can expect designers to make tiny shorts a year-round staple: "Whether it is a cargo utilitarian short at Brunello, a quirky pair at Bode, or skater denim shorts at Céline," he says. "Or, if you are ready for the Italian Riviera, opt for a wide pleated pair of shorts at MR P."

"It is definitely a go-to during the hot weather months," Immediato continues before providing his fail-proof outfit formula for styling the fad yourself (he also recommends checking out Thom Browne and Polo Ralph Lauren). "It is an affordable item of clothing to have that can easily be paired with a trainer and a T-shirt for the day or a shirt in the evening."

If you'd like a treat nearly as sweet as Mescal's salad, scroll on for some of the shortest shorts from the hottest men of Hollywood.

Who needs a shirt (or an inseam) when you have teeny-weeny yellow shorts, a bucket hat, and sneakers to match? And sometimes a New York City summer requires as little clothing as possible.

Thigh-length bottoms have become a staple in this actor's wardrobe, whether he's stepping out for a coffee or getting his go-to order from Sweetgreen.

Elordi has a knack for taking the simplest clothing item—like a tiny purse, or in this case, little shorts—and creating a fashion movement. The Saltburn actor's shorts-and-blazer Valentino look was both high-fashion and high-hotness.

If this photo doesn't make you understand the appeal of short shorts, then I cannot help you. I may pick up running just so I have a chance of passing this particular set of man thighs on the street.

This trend was practically made for Pine, so leave it to the actor and fashion icon to absolutely perfect it in a silk pajama set and trench coat.

I'm not sure what was most enticing about Challengers: the extremely attractive cast, the phallic-shaped food, the sexual innuendos, or Patrick and Art's little tennis shorts, which can also be seen on the courts IRL thanks to players like Rafael Nadal and Andre Agassi.

There aren't many people who could get away with showing up to the Met Gala in shorts, but if anyone could do it, it would be this guy. The actor and internet zaddy shut down the Met carpet in black mid-thigh-length shorts and a red trench coat.

Zac Efron is an actor, a Daytime Emmy-winning host for Netflix's Down to Earth With Zac Efron, and an avid fan of petite pants. Whether he's in the gym training or portraying Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw, you can always count on Efron's buff legs to be breaking free from some mini knickers.

They should rename The Summer I Turned Pretty to The Summer Short Shorts Turned Trendy because the Amazon Prime Video show's star Chris Briney can wear a pair like it's nobody's business.
