Six Wichita restaurants win 2024 Wine Spectator awards: One falls off list, one returns

Wine Spectator magazine has just put out its annual Restaurant Awards list, and six Wichita restaurants are on it.

And though the Wichita list of winners is largely unchanged since 2023, one restaurant fell off and was replaced this year by a past winner.

The magazine, which each year honors the “world’s best restaurants for wine,” this year recognized 3,777 restaurants from all 50 states and from more than 75 countries. The magazine chooses award winners on three levels. The top is the Grand Award, given to only 96 restaurants this year.

The next best is the Best of Award of Excellence, which for the third consecutive year was given to Wine Dive + Kitchen at 4714 E. Douglas. That restaurant has been on the list of winners since 2016. Of all the winners, 1,531 earned this distinction. (The Wine Dive + Kitchen restaurants in Manhattan and in Lawrence also won the Best of Award of Excellence.)

The other Wichita restaurants received an Award of Excellence, the third and final tier of awards, which was given to the remaining 2,150 restaurants that made the list. They were: Scotch & Sirloin, 6325 E. Kellogg; Vora Restaurant European, 3252 E. Douglas; 6S Steakhouse at 6200 W. 21st St., Newport Grill at 1900 N. Rock Road and Siena Tuscan Steakhouse, the restaurant inside the Ambassador Hotel at 104 N. Broadway. Siena had dropped off the list in 2023 after having been included for the previous six years.

Chester’s Chophouse, 1550 N. Webb Road, dropped off the list this year. It had been included since 2022 and had also made the list in previous years.

Scotch & Sirloin, owned by Mike Issa, has been on the list since 2018. Vora, which like Wine Dive is owned by Brad and Brent Steven, has been on the list since 2019. Newport Grill joined the list for the first time last year.

Several Kansas City, Kansas, restaurants also won awards, including 801 Chophouse and Sullivan’s Steakhouse, both in Leawood; Story, Verbena and Scratch Gourmet Kitchen, all in Prairie Village; Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar in Overland Park; and Wandering Vine at the Castle in Shawnee.

Pane e Vino Wine Bar & Academy in Lawrence also was included, and awards were given to several Kansas City, Missouri,-area restaurants as well.

The Restaurant Awards issue will be available on July 9. The Wine Spectator awards were launched in 1981. To see the full list, visit www.winespectator.com
