Your go-to snow boots just got a fashion-forward update
Yesterday in New York City, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler debuted their spring/summer 2025 collection — and unveiled a brand-new shoe collaboration with Sorel in the process. McCollough and Hernandez put their signature metropolitan spin on the footwear brand, elevating the quintessential winter snow boot into something with more of a cool, downtown edge.
The SS25 collection focused heavily on craft, colour and print, and included bright trench coats, minimalist knitwear, and asymmetrical skirts featuring striped motifs inspired by the American artist Barnett Newman. The new Sorel × Proenza Schouler boots were styled with these outfit formulas, serving as sartorial inspiration for the ultimate city slicker this coming season.
Two boot styles were unveiled as part of the Sorel × Proenza Schouler release. The first, dubbed the Caribou mule, has a low-cut boot silhouette, while the second takes after a more classic Chelsea boot. Both feature Sorel’s signature waterproof vulcanised rubber shell and the brand’s Aero-Trac sole, for added grip and traction during wintry weather. The shoes’ colour palette reflects the Proenza founders’ love for New York: There’s a high-contrast taxicab yellow and black pairing, alongside a minimalist white and jet black option.
The new collaboration is the latest of the designer label’s partnerships with universally beloved footwear brands; previous collaborators include Vans and Birkenstock.
“We liked the Sorel × Proenza Schouler Caribou styles as a counterpoint to some of the floatier and more feminine pieces in the spring/summer 2025 show — specifically, the weight the Chelsea boot and mules gave to our silhouettes,” McCollough and Hernandez told Harper’s Bazaar. “We are very specific in the brands we partner with, but Sorels are something we wear in our personal lives as the perfect rainy spring shoe. We like layering our brand codes within existing heritage structures. The black and white colour palette, contrast topstitch, and polished leather really make this collaboration feel like a blend of our two worlds.”
Although much of the catwalk collection will not be shoppable until 2025, the Sorel × Proenza Schouler boots will be available on 22 October, just as the leaves change and temperatures drop. Modestly priced between $350 and $400 (about £265 to £300), the boots will be available to shop at Proenza Schouler and through additional select retailers.
