New York City temperatures have me, a West Coast native, freezing. Consequently, my wardrobe has consisted of nothing but thick puffer jackets, cozy weather-proof boots, and snuggly cashmere sweaters. But I get fashionably stumped when it comes to dressing up; how the heck do I stay warm while simultaneously looking chic and sexy? Thankfully, Sofía Vergara came to my rescue.

The multi-hypenante was spotted in the Empire State wearing a monochromatic getup, including chunky jewelry, a luxe YSL envelope bag, sleek overcoat, and plunging button-up vest. But one can’t look at her ‘fit without seeing those huge, plum-colored trousers, which pooled at her feet and boasted a wide leg.

If the pants look familiar, that’s because she wore a similar pair earlier this week, proving her devotion to the style. I’m so here for it, since similar bottoms are known for their comfort. They’re roomy—unlike tight jeans and form-fitting leggings—offering maximum movement. Fashion editors even rely on spacious slacks (a.k.a., fancy sweatpants) for airport travel, while other celebrities wear lookalike bottoms like clockwork. So, it’s safe to say this trending style isn’t leaving Vergara’s closet—or this year’s biggest trends list—anytime soon.

While such pants look just as good with sneakers and flats, Vergara took her look up a notch with soaring combat boots that reminded me of Taylor Swift’s designer shoes. The combination of giant platforms and lengthy pants instantly elongated Vergara’s silhouette, amounting to legs for days. And as a shortie myself, I’ll immediately be adding this simple style trick to my fashion toolbox.
