There’s a new spot for Japanese cuisine in Columbia.
Mr. Toy Hibachi & Sushi Takeout made its debut on Aug. 29 at 1314 Leesburg Road, Suite K. That spot was formerly occupied by a different Japanese restaurant, Minato, which closed earlier this year.
Mr. Toy is located in a shopping center that is home to a host of other businesses, including the Breezy Seafood Market and the Pizza Palace restaurant, among others. It’s located about a mile east of Interstate 77.
Mr. Toy offers a host of hibachi lunches and dinners, per menus posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page, including chicken teriyaki, ribeye steak, shrimp, scallops, vegetables and more. It also has a deep menu of sushi, including cucumber rolls, avocado rolls, crab tempura rolls, chicken tempura rolls and more. Highlights on the appetizer menu include edamame, fried soft shell crab, and tuna tataki, among others.
The new Japanese takeout spot touted its recent opening with a nearly four-minute rap song that was posted to its social media pages. “What you want to eat today?” the intro to the song asks. “You want some sushi? Or you want some hibachi? Go see Mr. Toy. He’ll hook you up.”
Mr. Toy is open from Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. for dinner, per its Facebook page.
Leesburg Road is a busy thoroughfare that is home to numerous businesses and residential neighborhoods. About 27,000 cars per day travel down Leesburg, according to state Department of Transportation statistics.
