Trendy drinkware brand Stanley is seemingly taking over the planet—it is the best accessory to accompany your hot girl walk after all—but the brand isn't without its share of controversy. The company kicked off the year a little too strongly when reports of lead in its cups caused social outrage. (While Stanley tumblers do contain lead, the company insists that said lead is protected with a layer of stainless steel, negating any contact with the contents of the tumbler or the person drinking from it.) And now that that scandal has been put to bed, another has popped up in its place.

Today, the United State Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled almost three million of the popular travel mugs. The recall pertains specifically to the brand's Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs, whose lids are susceptible to detachment during use. So far, there have been almost 100 complaints about the lids, with 38 consumers reporting burn injuries as a result.

The faulty products were sold between June 2016 and December 2024 across numerous retailers, including Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Dick's Sporting Goods, among others. Those who have purchased the recalled mugs can request a free replacement lid by going to www.Stanley1913TMrecall.expertinquiry.com and inputting their product details.

Stanley put out a statement about the recall, stating, "Stanley 1913 is voluntarily recalling the Switchback [12 oz and 16 oz] and Trigger Action [12 oz, 16 oz and 20 oz] Travel Mugs, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). We have addressed the issue and are offering a free replacement lid to work with the existing product. At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life."

So while you might still be seeing this behemoth of a mug dominating your social media feeds, it may be best to grab your other go-to tumbler to fill with your daily dose of hot caffeine until your replacement lid arrives—because who wants to add Neosporin to their holiday wish list?!
