A new store is coming to Fairview Heights. Here’s when it opens, plus other details

A new store offering fun and affordable products is coming to St. Clair Square.

St. Clair Square senior general manager Michael Hagen said in a Fairview Heights Business Alliance Committee meeting Tuesday that MINISO will occupy the space recently vacated by Express on the mall’s lower level.

The mall’s market director, Christine Poehling, confirmed that MINISO signed a lease agreement and that the store will open this fall.

She said MINISO is popular at locations in South County Center in St. Louis and West County Center in Des Peres, Missouri.

So what does MINISO offer?

MINISO is a China-based store that offers products inspired by Japanese design. This includes a variety of household items, daily life products, health & beauty goods, fashion accessories, digital products and food & beverage items.

Plushies, cute lights, themed stationery, ramen bowls, cosmetics, perfumes, bluetooth speakers, phone and computer accessories, toys, snacks … Think of it as an Asian IKEA without the furniture and with Hello Kitty stuff (which means I am all for it because I love Hello Kitty).

In the U.S., the company is known for collaborations with Disney, Peanuts, Minions and other popular characters and products.

MINISO was founded in 2013, according to the company’s website, when founder Ye Guofo, also known as Jack Ye, vacationed with his family in Japan, where he came across “several specialty stores which stocked good quality, well designed, and inexpensive products” that were mainly made in China.

There are more than 6,400 stores worldwide. The company opened its 100th U.S. location in Orlando, Florida in December 2023.
