If you haven’t been to Subway to try its new Footlong Dippers, which were introduced just a few weeks ago, we have news for you. When you get there to give the flatbread rollups—full of meat and cheese that you dip in sauce—a try, that’s not all you’ll want to get.

It’s the Summer of Footlongs at Subway with an impressive variety of dippers, snacks, and subs (all 12 inches long, of course). The restaurant just introduced three new footlong sandwiches. Subway also added two new sauces (one is back by popular demand, TBH), a sandwich topping, and an exclusive Doritos flavor.

There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s get right to it.

Most of Subway’s sandwiches come in two sizes: six-inch and footlong. You can choose any of the three latest additions to the menu in either size.

  • Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken: Rotisserie-style chicken is topped with Monterey Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, all drizzled in Honey Mustard and Subway’s smokey BBQ sauce (does the sauce sound familiar?).

  • Spicy Nacho Chicken: Rotisserie-style chicken is topped with green peppers, red onions, jalapeños, and SubKrunch (more about that in a minute), all drizzled with Cheddar Cheese sauce and Creamy Sriracha sauce.

  • Cheesy Garlic Steak: Sliced steak is topped with green peppers, red onions, and SubKrunch, all drizzled with Roasted Garlic Aioli and Cheddar Cheese sauce.

Fans have been asking, and Subway is finally answering by bringing back one sauce after a three-year hiatus while also adding an all-new sauce to its menu.

BBQ Sauce: The sweet, tangy sauce with hints of hickory smoke, black pepper, red pepper, and other warm spices is back on the menu.

Cheddar Cheese Sauce: This smooth and creamy blend of sharp Cheddar, American, and Parmesan can’t be beaten for dipping the Footlong Dippers or an Auntie Anne's Footlong Pretzel. You can drizzle it on any of Subway’s sandwiches, too.

Finally, the SubKrunch mentioned above is a first-of-its-kind crunchy topping that adds a flavor boost to Subway’s sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Subway describes it as crispy bits coated with savory seasonings and then fried to perfection, giving no additional details.

Word on Reddit, though, is that SubKrunch's base is some sort of seasoned corn product. One commenter who seems to work at Subway said they were “told in a meeting with higher-ups that it’s kind of like a Frito corn chip but not.” Another said it looks like Fruity Pebbles before the coloring is added.

Whatever it is, it’s “VERY crunchy,” according to someone who has tried it. SubKrunch probably brings the same thing chips do to a sandwich—a crunchy sensory experience that somehow makes the sandwich more satisfying.

Crunchy chips are the perfect accompaniment for any of Subway’s new sandwiches, either on the side or shoved into the sandwich (perhaps along with the SubKrunch). Potato chips work, but so do Doritos. For a limited time, Subway has what it says is an exclusive Doritos flavor, Sweet & Tangy BBQ, but truth be told, we’ve found the flavor elsewhere.

Exclusive or not, the BBQ-flavored chips, with some sweetness and tanginess, seem made to stuff into the new Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken sub, don’t they?
