Subway Launches a New Sandwich Topping to Give Your Sub a Crunch

Subway's new SubKrunch is made of seasoned, crispy corn bits

If you're one to add chips to your sandwich, Subway’s latest menu item is for you.

The sub shop rolled out a new sandwich topping on July 9: SubKrunch. It's made of "crispy bits developed to add an audible crunch" covered in a "savory seasoning and then fried to perfection," according to a release. A representative for Subway clarified to PEOPLE that corn is the main ingredient in SubKrunch.

Subway also has some saucy additions to pair with the crunchy topping: a brand-new Cheddar cheese sauce and a returning barbecue sauce.

The cheesy drizzle is made with three different cheeses — Cheddar, American and Parmesan — and is meant to be served on top of a sandwich or as a dipping sauce for Subway’s footlong Auntie Anne’s pretzel.

The BBQ sauce returns to menus after being removed three years ago. It's described as having smoky and peppery flavors.

“Subway’s new menu update is all about great flavor at a great value and giving our guests new ways to take their footlong subs and snacks to the next level,” said Subway’s Senior Vice President of Culinary Innovation Paul Fabre in the release.

Three new sandwiches will feature the new sauces and topping. The Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken combines rotisserie-style chicken, Monterey Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles and drizzles of honey mustard and the new BBQ sauce.

The other two newbies include both a new sauce and SubKrunch. The Spicy Nacho Chicken sandwich features rotisserie-style chicken, green peppers, red onion, jalapeños, SubKrunch and is topped with Cheddar cheese sauce and creamy sriracha.

The Cheesy Garlic Steak sub takes sliced steak, green peppers, red onions and SubKrunch and douses it in roasted garlic aioli and Cheddar cheese sauce.

Subway’s menu has expanded in 2024. The Subway’s Sidekicks category, initially introduced on Jan. 22, debuted footlong cookies, Cinnabon churros and Auntie Anne's pretzels. As of June 18, Subway has new footlong Dippers to choose from, too.

The Dippers are rolled lavash-style flatbreads with meats and melted cheese inside and are available in three simple varieties: Pepperoni & Cheese, Chicken & Cheese and Double Cheese.
