From Woman's Day

Susan Lucci is the queen of soap operas. After more than 40 years as the leading lady on All My Children, Lucci is now taking over as a fitness influencer — at the ripe age of 71.

For years, she's been showing off her toned physique on QVC as a spokesperson for the Pilates Pro Chair and her fitness DVDs. Since then, she even launched her own activewear collection, the Susan Lucci Collection — and she says that her Erica Kane character would totally approve.

Her motivation for sticking to her routine remains the same: She wants to look as young as she feels (she has four grandchildren to keep up with!). The actress even says that 70 is the new 40 — we couldn't agree more. Here's what the former daytime star and Pilates powerhouse does to keep her body in age-defying shape.

She's a Pilates pro.

Considered a "pilates legend" in the fitness world, Lucci has been practicing pilates for more than 30 years. "The All My Children studio was near Lincoln Center and I used to see all the ballerinas and the dancers and I thought I don’t want to bulk up, I want to have long, lean, toned muscles," she told People. "And I found out that through Pilates you can achieve those strong, lean dancer muscles.”

Even better, Lucci discovered the Pilates Pro Chair 10 years ago — and she soon became its spokesperson. Along with her pilates workouts, she incorporates tennis lessons and cardio into her weekly routine. "I try to combine some cardio, too, and whatever I’m doing, it’s all about the core and flexibility and balance," she told Huffington Post.

She doesn't let her age limit her.

This 71-year-old believes age is just a number — and she isn't afraid to put others in their place. "You don’t have to get doughty or suddenly because you have a new label on you, ‘Oh I’m 50 so therefore I have to be a certain thing," she told People. " Follow your heart and look at your rear view as well as your front view!”

Her positive mindset enables her to continue reaching for new fitness goals — and gives her the confidence to show off her figure on Instagram. "As women, it’s easy to find the faults in ourselves. Be your own best friend: Don’t compare yourself [to others], and don’t be so hard on yourself.”

She kicks off her day the right way.

She's a lucky lady — her husband of nearly 50 years, Helmut Huber, knows his way around the kitchen. He often whips up healthy breakfasts for his wife, including Greek yogurt and berry parfaits.

Her secret weapon: hot water with lemon. "I drink two cups of coffee in the morning, and then it’s hot water and lemon for the rest of the day. It hydrates, it’s comforting ... and it keeps me away from too much caffeine," she told The Huffington Post.

She has her skincare routine down to a science.

Sure, Lucci's ageless skin is probably due to good genes. "I was very lucky; both of my parents had really nice skin. My mother still does, she looks fantastic," she told People. Still, she follows a strict skincare routine. "I am diligent about taking care of my skin, no matter how late I get home," she told NewBeauty.

In addition to her quarterly dermatologist visits, Lucci pampers her skin with luxurious products including,Cle de Peau’s Cleansing Foam, SkinMedica's TNS Essential Serum, SkinMedica’s Lytera, and La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream.
