6 signs your relationship is coming to an end

On Sunday night, Hollywood’s golden couple Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced they were splitting after eight years of being married. The shock revelation is nothing new in the age where one in five couples in the UK regularly consider separating . Relationship experts have agreed that a simple lack of respect is the ultimate reason behind why many couples divorce. But there are plenty more (and they don’t always involve constant arguing). “For some people, it is a slow recognition of a number of factors that begin to emerge in their relationship, while for others, there is a defining moment – when they realise that the relationship simply can’t last, often when you realise that you no longer love the person that they are with, or sadly, that they no longer love you,” says dating coach and behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings . “If you want to address the issues that are building up in your relationship, then the only way to truly understand whether you have a future together is to talk it through with your partner and tell them how you are feeling, however difficult it seems,” she adds. “Sometimes these feelings will be to do with something else altogether like illness or work stress, but if you don’t communicate, it will tend to get worse. If you are the one who is feeling like you don’t see a future, than it is kinder to be honest, rather than let your partner continue to suffer in fear and concern.” We got some more tips from some of the UK’s leading relationship and marriage experts to find out the major warning signs that could spell the end of your relationship. Meet the meshers: why married couples are now splicing up their surnames

Double-barrelling, with its instantly posh-upping capabilities is another option, but while once a popular alternative it seems hyphenated surnames are no longer de rigueur. Approximately 800 British newlyweds a year choose to mash-up their surnames and the soaring popularity of the practice has meant that the UK Deed Poll Service has had to create a separate system to cope with demand.

Parenting through a divorce: How to keep stress and sadness for children to a minimum

The latest UK national statistics show that 48% of divorcing couples have at least one child, and over a fifth have children under five. “Going through a separation or divorce is one of the toughest situations a parent may face,” explains Jo Wiltshire, parenting expert for childcare.co.uk. “Not only do you have to deal with your own feelings and practicalities, you also have your children’s needs and feelings to think about – and often they may express a range of feelings from shock and confusion to anger and sadness.

Apparently Women Are Just As Bad As Men When It Comes To Forgetting Wedding Anniversaries

In a recent US based survey by Laguna Pearl, it was said that women are just as bad as men when it comes to forgetting wedding anniversaries, although men are proving to still be the biggest culprits with 1 in 3 confessing that the date slipped their mind. When asked why the anniversary of their all-so big day was forgotten, 15% of women explained that it simply wasn’t important to them, in comparison to their male counterpart where 12% had the same attitude.

Are you friends with your ex? You may have psychopathic traits

The study’s findings revealed that people who had “dark triad personality traits,” such as narcissism, machiavellianism and psycopathy, were more likely to maintain friendships with their exes for “practical and sexual reasons.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, men also rated the importance of said reasons as more important than women did. The study first polled 340 people on the reasons for staying friends with their ex. The 500 participants were also given a personality test to identify levels of the dark triad.

Why celebrity marriages are more likely to end in divorce

The average couple spends about $30,000 to get hitched—quite frugal, actually, if you’re Kim Kardashian West. “Although this research might look like some excuse for gossip about hapless celebrities, it is much more serious than that,” says Marriage Foundation chairman Paul Coleridge. In what he dubs the “Hello! magazine weddings” — in reference to the lavish celebrity wedding spreads displayed by glossy magazines and equally lapped up by the general public — Coleridge suggests that even if celebrities do set the trend for spendthrift weddings, their marriages are relatively poor role models to mimic.
