Social sciences teacher Dori Myers, 29, was charged with a criminal sexual act in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child. She allegedly performed oral sex on one of her students.

According to the New York Daily News, the police found out about the incident when the 14-year-old victim confided in a classmate, who then told the school’s principal. Prosecutors say Myers assaulted the teenager on Nov. 1.

Myers, who has been teaching since 2014, was arrested on Friday at the site of the attack, in Upper Manhattan in New York City. She pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was released on her own recognizance despite the initial $50,000 bail prosecutors requested.

Myers was a teacher at the New School for Leadership and the Arts in Kingsbridge, New York. Along with teaching, she established the track team at the school. Her husband is a sheriff’s deputy, and they live in Rockland County.

A Department of Education spokesman called the allegations “deeply troubling” and said Myers was “reassigned away from students.”

Myers’s attorney, Andrew Stoll, maintains the teacher is innocent. “It just takes one person’s accusation to make an arrest in this town and she’s a model citizen who looks forward to clearing her name,” Stoll told the New York Post.

Authorities allege that a fellow teacher witnessed Myers massaging the victim. The judge issued a 30-day order of protection asking Myers to stay away from the victim.

The teacher deactivated all her social media accounts on Saturday, after photos of herself in T-shirts with slogans such as “Whisky makes me frisky” and “Champagne all day” surfaced online.
