This coat has everything you need to survive winter

Canadians understand winter, which is why it isn’t surprising that a Canadian invented a jacket that may just be winter’s best solution.

The Smart Parka was created by Jamil Khan, a Toronto-based software developer who was sick of bulky jackets and lost mittens. He wanted to create something that had everything you needed to get through the cold season so he quit his job and started a Kickstarter campaign.

“We believe that going out in winter should not be intimidating. It should be fun,” the website states. “We found a real problem with winter coats. If the weather turns bad, and you don’t have your gloves or anything to cover your face, you are not protected.”

Working with a number of Toronto-based designers, Khan got to work on creating a jacket that would be prepared – no matter what Mother Nature throws at you.

The Smart Parka features all kinds of clever features like a built-in scarf, a pocket to store your hat, built-in gloves and a removable lining. There’s also a bunch of other pockets for things like glasses, your smartphone and even a tablet as well as an extension if you want the coat to be longer or shorter.

The plan is to launch with four women’s jacket styles and three for men, which will come in an array of colours to suit different tastes.

Now that it’s finally cold outside, it shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise that the Kickstarter campaign has already exceeded its $30,000 goal by more than $20,000 – with 56 days left to go! Most backers have opted for one of the jackets, which can be purchased for as low as $295, a considerable discount from the estimated retail cost of $740. Khan estimates coats will be ready to ship by August 2016 in preparation for next winter.
