This is why you should be putting sugar in your hair (instead of salt)

For years, stylists have been boasting about the benefits of sea salt sprays. Nearly every brand on the market has their own version of the ocean-inspired texturizer from Bumble and Bumble’s cult classic, Surf Spray, to drugstore versions by OGX, TRESemmé and John Frieda.

While many have fallen in love with the easy, beachy waves you get after a few quick spritzes, the drawback of using it too often is dried out and even crispy hair due to the dehydrating effects of salt. But not to worry. Now you can get the same beachy waves without the dryness.

There’s a new texturizer in town and it’s much sweeter than salt. Actually, it’s the opposite. Sugar sprays are planning a texturizing takeover and I for one couldn’t be more excited – I’ve always had a sweet tooth. The major benefit of a sugar spray over salt is that they use sugar cane extract, which is actually a moisturizer so crispy strands will be a thing of the past.

Apparently stylists have been mixing up their own sugar cocktails for years but these new sprays have been specifically formulated to add “moisturizing” texture that isn’t sticky and – as one concerned editor at Yahoo pointed out – won’t attract a hive of bees to your head.
