Do you have a stash of plates tucked away that are just too good to use? Now might be the time to try the latest interiors trend: hanging decorative plates on your wall.

Taking its cues from gallery walls and vintage houses, this look is a meeting of cluttercore and granny chic – and we're totally on board.

Decorative plates for wall hanging: why is it trending?

There's proof that decorative wall plates are experiencing some sort of a renaissance. In the last 90 days, Google searches for 'wall plate hanger' has increased by over 5,000 per cent, while 'wall plate decor' and 'how to hang plates on wall' has increased by 70 per cent.

Lena Gierasinska, head of product and displays at Barker and Stonehouse, says the resurgence of hanging plates speaks to a broader trend for nostalgic interiors: 'The appeal of this style lies in its ability to provide a sense of stability and familiarity in a world that can sometimes feel uncertain.'

Sam Tamlyn, interiors expert and managing director of Shutterly Fabulous, says the 'affordability and accessibility of plates make them an attractive option for many'. It's typically more affordable than traditional art pieces, and can be easily sourced from antique shops, flea markets, or online marketplaces.

Creating a plate wall

Guaranteed to add charm and character to your space, this easy decorating hack is a great way to revamp your walls (as little or as often as you like), and remember, anything goes – from handpainted designs and pretty florals to graphic patterns and cheeky messages. We love &Klevering’s delightfully colourful plates for an eclectic display, or Fornasetti’s decorative wall plates offer a Surrealist edge, although it's a pricier option. We recommend looking for adhesive plate hangers (try Amazon or Hobbycraft), which will keep your precious wares firmly and safely secured to the wall.
